1948 MG TC “Alfa Special”
$69,888 EGC
Notes
Unique MG-Alfa Special.
This exceptional MG-Alfa was built by renowned builder Peter Thomas with the goal of creating a top-tier competition car. It competed successfully in various hill climb events during the 1980s, including Rob Roy, Mt. Tarrengower, and Templestowe. Notably, at the 1985 Geelong Sprints, it achieved a time of 14.69 seconds, placing behind Harry Firths supercharged MG TC.
The cars body is mounted on MG Chassis 6231, which has been reinforced with steel boxing from the dumb irons to the firewall for added strength. The lightweight alloy body is securely attached to the chassis with an aluminium firewall, enhancing the cars stability and ensuring excellent handling, even on uneven surfaces.
Under the hood, the car is powered by an Alfa Romeo 105 twin camshaft engine, capable of producing nearly twice the horsepower of the original XPAG MG TC engine. This, combined with the Alfa gearbox, delivers an exhilarating driving experience. For a comprehensive review, see Ernest Literas article in Behind the Wheel (June 2015).
The car can be registered on Club Plates and is road-ready, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of Australian motoring history.
